That Awkward Moment follows the tale of three best friends, Jason (Efron), Mikey (Jordan) and Daniel (Teller) who find themselves at various confusing and at times awkward moments of a relationship. Jason and Daniel both are having the time of their lives being single, playing the field and doing well at their work as book covers designers. Meanwhile, their friend Mikey, who has been married is suddenly faced with a divorce from his wife. So, the three decides to celebrate being single and made a pact with one another to stay single. However, things get confusing and difficult when all three friends meet someone that they all start to fall for.
Not much of a buddy film, but more of a chick-flick, I had to say I was a tad disappointed with that. By the looks of the commercials, etc, it looked as if it was going to be more of a guys film but the balance to keep it as a buddy film and a chick-flick was tilted more towards the romance side. There was more focus on the chase between the couples, it is a bit of a waste because the chemistry between Efron, Teller and Jordan was so strong, it was sad that we didn’t get to see more of just the three of them. However, it is quite interesting to see the guys in the story as more sensitive and more analytical than the women in the film. Great choice of coupling from Efron and Poots to Teller and Davis and lastly to Jordan and Lucas. The writing was funny, and manage to depict how confusing and awkward one could be in relationships.
Overall, even though the film had less focus on the buddy element but more on the romance, it nevertheless had the correct amount of comedy and romance to safe the film. Recommended to those who are looking for something that balances the funny and the romantic.
