Romantics Anonymous (2010)
Running Time: 80 minutes
Directed by: Jean-Pierre Ameris
Starring: Benoit Poelvoorde, Isabelle Carre, Lorella Cravotta, Lise Lametrie
Romantics Anonymous is a romantic comedy that tells the tale of a woman and man who share a common passion – chocolate. They met when Angelique (Carre) a gifted chocolate maker is hired by Jean-Rene (Poelvoorde), the boss of a small chocolate factory to be a salesperson for the company. Both are highly emotional people who find it nerve-wrecking to behave normally in the outside world, so then what happens when they both fall in love.
As a simple and sweet romantic comedy, I think Jean-Pierre Ameris did a wonderful job of keeping the movie light and funny throughout the film. The storyline is simple, but the characters are what make the movie interesting and keeps the audience watching. The layers to each of the main characters are a delight as you watch them unfold throughout the film. The chemistry between Poelvoorde and Carre is in some ways eccentric but works well on-screen. With the help of the supporting cast members, the movie is pretty much complete. The other thing I really liked in the film is the costume for the actors, it really helped defined who they are, and their personalities.
All in all, it was a heartwarming film that is easy to watch. Recommended to those who are looking for a quality film to simply relax to on a weekend.
