The Hangover Part III (2013)
Running Time: 100 minutes
Directed by: Todd Phillips
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong
For the third Hangover installment, it begins with the death of Alan’s father, in which the wolfpack decides to do an intervention for Alan (Galifianakis). But things start to go haywire when on their way to the hospital, the gang encountered a mob and Doug (Bartha) is kidnapped. In order to save Doug, they must find Mr Chow (Jeong).
Unlike the previous two films, the storyline took a different approach, instead this film took a darker, and thriller-feel approach where the gang was chased by a mob instead of starting the film with a hangover. In some ways, the film was also more serious than the previous ones. It was definitely refreshing, and makes it more unexpected than the previous films, since it broke out from its formula. The film is still hilarious and the actors did their usual performance as previous films, this time with more focus on Alan and Mr Chow. However, something just didn’t feel right, the comedy just wasn’t on par with the previous two.
Overall, it’s a good third installment, but with some missing ingredients. Oh and make sure to catch the last scene mid-credits!
